Backup and restore

What to back up

  • The project file. It holds the scene, the programs and the recipes — everything you built.
  • The robot's own program, if it was edited outside Stackmill.
  • On a server, the data folder, which holds the projects, the settings and the licence.

A project

One file. Copy it, or keep it under version control — a project is worth a history, and "yesterday's version worked" is a question you will eventually ask.

A server

Everything the server keeps lives in its data folder, which an update never touches. Back that folder up and you can rebuild the machine from nothing.

Restoring

A project opens on any machine with a licence that allows it — with one exception: a file saved in demo mode only opens on the machine that saved it.

Restoring a server means installing it again and putting the data folder back. Test that before you need it, not after.
