How Stackmill is organised

Four words carry everything else on this site.

Projects

A project is one file holding one installation: the scene, the programs, the recipes and the settings. Copy the file and you have copied the cell.

The scene

The scene is what exists in space — the robot, its tool, the pallets, the fences, the positions it must reach. Everything in it is an object, and objects are arranged in a tree, so moving one moves what hangs beneath it.

The scene is not decoration. Collision checking, reachability and trajectories are all computed from it, which is why an object placed a few centimetres out produces a program that is wrong by a few centimetres.

Programs

A program is what the robot does. Most of the time you will not write one line by line: you describe a recipe and Stackmill generates the program from it. See Programs.

Cells

A cell is a project connected to real hardware, running. That is the difference between simulating and producing, and it is where the operator screens come from. See Cells, devices and flows.
